Trying clothes on with a photo of yourself takes trust. Here's exactly what happens to it, and what never will.
Never used to train AI
Your photos and the looks made from them are never used to train AI models. Not now, not in the future.
Never kept by the AI
Your photo is used to make your look, and the AI model that makes it doesn't store it.
No face recognition
We don't make facial recognition templates, and we never use your photo to identify you.
Never sold
Your photo isn't sold, and it's never shared for advertising.
Safeguards on every photo and every look
- Every photo is checked first. Before anything is made, we check it shows one adult facing the camera, and refuse nudity, children and well-known people.
- Every look is checked before you see it. If it doesn't look enough like you, or a piece didn't come out like the real one, it isn't shown, and it doesn't count towards your daily try-ons.
- Adults only. You need to be 18 or over, and you can only upload a photo of yourself.
- Shared only when you share. Your looks are private. A look you send is a link you choose to share, and you can stop it at any time.
- Guests stay on their device. Try on without a profile and your photo and looks stay in your browser.
You're in control
- Delete anything, any time. A look, your photo, or your whole profile with everything in it: Delete my data is on your profile.
- See what your stylist has learned. Change it, add your own notes, start over, or turn personalised suggestions off.
- No surprise marketing. Instawear never signs you up to a store's marketing emails, and a store only sends you app notifications if you turn them on.
- Share only what you want. Your sizes and colouring are optional, with Prefer not to say for each.
- Clear about what stores see. A store sees the looks made and pieces tried at its own store, so it can improve its range. It can't see what your stylist has learned about you.

An honest note about AI. Try-ons are AI previews to help you choose. Colour, details and fit can differ from the real piece, and they aren't a size guide, so check the store's size chart before you buy.
Is Instawear free?
Yes. You get a number of try-ons each day, and more when you sign in with a profile. A look that doesn't pass our quality check isn't shown and doesn't count.
Where can I use it?
At stores that offer Instawear: look for Try it on on a product page, with Try-on by Instawear underneath. The Instawear app, coming soon to iPhone and Android, brings all your stores together.
Do I need an account?
Not always. Where a store offers it, you can try on as a guest, and your photo and looks stay on your device. A profile keeps your photo, looks and sizes on every device and at every Instawear store, and there's no password: we email you a code, or you continue with Apple, Google or Shop.
What kind of photo works best?
One clear photo of just you, head to feet, standing and facing the camera, in good light against a plain background, in everyday fitted clothes. Avoid photos taken very close up, sitting down, or with your hands or body hidden.
Why was my photo refused?
Every photo is checked before it's used. We'll ask for another if it shows more than one person, isn't clear enough, or doesn't show enough of you for the look. Photos with nudity, children or well-known people are always refused.
Will it show me how something fits?
A try-on shows you how a piece looks on you, but it's an AI preview, not a size guide. For size, save the sizes you usually wear and Instawear suggests yours at each store, learning from what you keep, swap or return. Always check the store's size chart too.
Is my photo used to train AI?
No, never. Your photos and looks are only used to make your try-ons. They're never used to train AI models, never stored by the AI model, never sold, and never used to identify you.
Can I delete everything?
Yes, at any time. Delete a look or replace your photo in the Fitting Room, or delete your whole profile, photos and looks with Delete my data on your profile in the Instawear app. You can also ask the store or us to do it.
Can I try things on in a shop?
Yes. In a store that offers Instawear, open the Instawear app and scan the piece's swing tag. It's ready to try on straight away.
